MSN Live Messenger Hack

MSN live Messenger came out not quite long ago, it does have some advantages and disadvantages, one of the most annoying part is that if you are sending one file sometimes it can't be transfer it at all, sometimes after finish transfer and when u try to open it and u cant open the file.

Take an example in a scenario where:

  1. You are using Microsoft Windows Live Messenger and your other friend is using the previous version which is MSN Messenger.
  2. Obviously, neither you nor your friend can use the ''Sharing Folder'' feature since MSN Messenger doesn't has it.
  3. The only way that you or your friend can send mp3 files is by dragging the file into the chat window box. Simple right?
  4. You click either Accept or Save as link. The problem only occurs when after the mp3 files transfer is completed and you try to click the link.
  5. A prompt comes out, like the one below. Live Messenger tells us that the file is potentially unsafe to open.
  6. There is not other button to click besides the ''OK'' button, what happens next? The file would not open, and the file cant be open. Why?? It's because Live Messenger has automatically deleted it.
  7. Well now most people will start asking why, I guess that it could possibly be that this is to prevent some sort of Spyware or Trojan horse from mass sending files thru network Why this is for only sending a single file, but ''Sharing Folders'' does not has issues like this? It could be that there was such Spyware/Trojan horse that is capable doing so.
Solution:
  1. Add in manually the extension files of that u want to transfer into the registry.
  2. Why I said manually and not straight gave you a program that will do this automatically for you? Well the executable registry hack contains more than 50 extension, which some I find it that you might not even be using it.
  3. Therefore, today we will only be adding into the registry for those files that we want to be as ''Low Risk File Types''. Take for an example mp3 file.
  4. Click the ''Start'' button then 'Run' type in : regedit and click ''Ok''.
  5. Once you are in the registry it will look something like this.
  6. First things, first. We will do a backup of the registry incase anything goes wrong like accidental deleting or modifying other registry entries that were not mean to be done. Click File -? Export ? Choose the location and file name.
  7. Once its done, navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Associations.
  8. At the left column, right click there and add new ''String Value''
  9. Change the ''New Value #1'' to LowRiskFileTypes
  10. Add in .mp3; in the value data. Click Ok. And close the registry.
  11. To make this hack to be effective, sign out Live Messenger and exit the program from the tast bar.
  12. It should be working by now. ?, you can add in more extension but do remember to be careful of what extension that you select, some might cause you to accidentally execute the file.
